We Care

Red Carnation Hotels is part of the TTC family of brands and works in proud partnership with its TreadRight Foundation to #MakeTravelMatter. At The Acorn Inn, we are committed to our community and to supporting local charities. We are proud to reduce food miles by working almost exclusively with local suppliers.

We sustain our own herb garden and our food waste is taken to a bio-digester, where it is turned into electricity, with the bi-product used as fertiliser by local farmers. In our hotel, we will be using ACT CleanCoat™, an effective and sustainable self-disinfection solution, further improving the wellbeing of staff and guests.

Our green initiatives

At The Acorn Inn we...

  • Recycle all paper, cardboard, glass, printer cartridges & batteries, aerosols, plastics and cans
  • Use energy saving light bulbs
  • Provide green practices training for all staff
  • Ask that guests put towels they wish to be replaced into the bath so we don’t replace unnecessarily
  • Use a water saving toilet flushing system
  • Sustain our own herb garden
  • Use water butts to water our plants and herb garden
  • Work with Belu water - the only 100% carbon neutral water company giving all profits to Water Aid
  • Provide toiletries from REN, Devon, which are paraben free
  • Collect food waste to take to a bio-digester 10 minutes away, where it is turned into electricity. The bi-product is collected by local farmers and used as fertiliser on their fields
  • Compost all vegetable peelings, tea bags and coffee granules
  • Are proud to have only one general waste bin collected every week

Our local community

  • All half-used toiletries and soaps from the rooms are taken to Yeovil Night Shelter
  • Lost property that has been unclaimed after six months is taken to charity shops
  • We ask all fish suppliers to recycle all polystyrene packaging that is used to deliver their produce
  • We source as much produce from high quality sustainable sources within 20 miles, therefore reducing delivery miles and supporting the local economy
